As is so often the case, there are multiple ways to find out what size your image is, but not all methods are available to everyone.

For example, I use the Windows XP operating system. When I single-click on the file name, or simply place the cursor over the file name, a message box pops up with the pixel dimensions stated ... as shown below:

Too easy! Your operating system may not be so cooperative. Here are a couple more options for finding this information ...
Another option would be to open the file in question in Netscape - in some versions the size will be clearly stated in the title bar:
YAY! Still easy. But perhaps you don't have Netscape or your version doesn't show this information. Read on, there is yet another option ...
Internet Explorer doesn't provide the information so immediately, but there is still a way to find out. Open the file in IE, right click on the image and chose the option Properties from the dialog box that pops up.

Within the list of information called "Properties" are the Dimensions, in this case 600X450.
I use Adobe Photoshop, it will tell me the picture size if I ask it thus:

And it will tell me in pixels and inches or whatever I ask of it, but that's perhaps more information than you want to know just now ...

I hope this is useful.
