New
lighting (so
bright in
fact that
you may never
see the stars
in town again),
new walkways
and railings,
new trees,
a fountain
in the river
to the right
of this picture
- Elizabeth
Park is receiving
a face lift.
It's such
a wonderful
park and is
increasingly
well used.
In this picture
there are
people fishing
the Detroit
River on a
hot, overcast
June afternoon.
And yes, they
do catch fish,
and I suppose
they eat them
... try not
to think about
it too much. |
 |
| New
landscaping,
new steps, this
picture is taken
directly behind
the picture
above - I just
turned around
a snapped this.
The great old
brick building
at the top of
the stairs has
marvelous arched
windows and
slate roofs
... I haven't
learned if it's
scheduled for
restoration.

You
may recall
the bridge
in other seasons,
one of my
favorite subjects.
As always,
I digitally
remove the
ugly cement
bumbers at
the foot of
the bridge,
you can see
them in the
picture below.

 |
 |
| Same
bridge, different
view, without
the bumpers
above, with
them below.
I've pictured
it after a
deep snowfall
in January
this year,
and on
a foggy morning
in November
of 2003. Every
year they
deteriorate
a little bit
more ... the
railings rust
away, the
concrete steps
crumble, and
little green
things take
up residence.
