Last
year the
alley and
the street
were dug up
for sewer
work. The
City reclaimed
a few feet
of the easement
I'd been using,
that sloped
down to the
much narrower
alley. Paul
came over
and helped
me (I helped,
actually,
he did the
work) put
up some little
retaining
walls. |
 |
| I
dug a slope
and placed some
sandstone pavers
... some had
been used as
steps in the
pre-existing
slope. I also
pulled some
out of a little
path that has
been subsumed
by the roses
in front. I'm
very happy with
the way the
steps turned
out ... |
|
| Time,
once again to
continue the
turf removal
project. Above,
the work as
I started on
Sunday. Below,
the same view
on Tuesday.

|
The space
is bare earth
now ... it
would look
great paved
with bricks,
maybe a semi-circle
for a seating
area. But
digging a
footing into
the roots
of that tree
... it's going
to take more
than my little
shovel to
get into that
network ...
Below, the
view on Sunday,
from the alley. |

 |
| The
turf is good
material for
building a berm.
Most of this
berm was built
last year with
the sod I removed
in 1' square
chunks, after
pulling out
the network
of rooms. |

| Mrs.
Roosevelt loves
to be outside.
Once she's had
all the salad
she can mow
(I know she's
going to miss
the grass) she
finds a comfortable
place to lounge. |
