In
the front
yard, the
first of the
iris opened
today. They
are surrounded
by the ever-hardy
strawberries.
In the background,
pink columbines
light up the
shade ... |
 |
| ...
this clump has
been coming
up every year,
bigger and stronger
each time. |
 |
| The
ubiquitous violets
... there's
some question
whether these
are flowers
or weeds ...
it's a matter
of perspective,
I suppose. |
 |
The
same thing
goes for strawberries,
although when
the berries
are ripe nobody
would think
to call them
weeds. |
|
| This
columbine is
growing in the
crack between
the sidewalk
along the side
of the house,
and the bricks
of the house
itself. It's
directly below
the water faucet
on the side
of the house,
which provides
a steady drip
when the water
is on. |

| Wild
ginger, in the
back yard. Maryam
gave this to
me last year,
and I didn't
see it flower
last spring,
so I was surprised
and delighted
to see the odd
little dark
red cups at
the base of
the stem. |
 |
| Yesterday,
late afternoon, I spotted these odd looking mushrooms. Right away i thought
they must be morels, since I've seen pictures of them. I started calling
around, to see if anyone knew well enough to positively I.D. them ... |
 |
| Nobody
was sufficiently confident, but last night I searched the web and found
enough about them to be sure of what they were. I picked them in the morning
and sauteed them in butter in the afternoon. Very nice. Very. |
