Here's
a good close
up of the
entry door,
the door to
the closet
(which has
a mirror built
into the door),
and the marvelous
light above
the door (close-up
below). |
|
 |
| The
carpet came
up easily, none
of the pad was
deteriorated
or stuck to
the floor. There
are still a
lot of nail
strips to pull
up, but it is
great to see
the fine dark
stained floors
in the dining
room, and (below)
in the living
room. |
 |
| I
closed on the
mortgage on
a Friday - by
Saturday afternoon
I'd had the
chimney cleaned
and capped,
and burned a
little kindling
to celebrate.
|
 |
| It
isn't clear
to me that these
are the original
cabinets, but
every door handle
has a little
button to unlatch
it. The door
swings, opening
into the dining
room. |
|
| The
window over
the sink looks
onto the garage
roof. The window
on the south
wall overlooks
the little back
yard and my
neighbor's two
big dogs. woof. |
|
All the appliances
are in fine
shape, although
I'd like to
have a gas
line put in
and switch
the electric
stove for
the gas stove
from my West
Road house.
This door
opens to the
basement stairs
and the back
door. |
 |
| There's
the swinging
door to the
dining room
again, and another
door into the
hallway - straight
down the hallway
is the study,
below. |
 |
| No
carpet to remove
in the study
- Mrs. D. left
a mattress and
box, which I've
dressed up in
sheets and comforter,
in case I can't
make it the
two blocks back
to West Road
some day, after
hauling out
carpet ... |
 |
| As
with the bedrooms
upstairs, the
study has two
closets. Look
down the hallway
- powder room,
stairs up, kitchen.
On the wall
to the left
is an odd little
cabinet, originally
housing the
phone (picture
below)
|
|
|
| Every
day I pull out
more carpet,
pull staples
out of the pad
and roll it
up ... the most
time-consuming
part is pulling
out the strips
along the wall,
or on each step
and riser ...
it's very satisfying
to get these
out ... the
carpet is so
clean that it
hasn't been
a particularly
nasty task. |
|
| Plenty
of green shag
to go around,
the second flight
of steps and
landing, and
the upstairs
hallway (photo
below) ... the
bedrooms were
not carpeted.
Note built in
cabinet and
drawers visible
in the hall
... |
|
 |
| Great
light fixtures,
but it's hard
to believe that
there were never
globes of any
sort covering
the bare light
bulbs. There
isn't anything
any more, but
I'll be looking
around to find
something. |
